Updated: Jun 23, 2021

NEWS LEATHER HEADER

WELCOME TO THE MAY 2021 EDITION OF THE BOOTSRAPS NEWSLETTER.

HERE WE DISCUSS EVERYTHING GOING ON, UPCOMING EVENTS, WELCOMING NEW MEMBERS AND CELEBRATING OUR LOVE AND PASSION FOR EVERYTHING LEAHTER!

FROM THE CEO:

I would like to officially welcome you all to the inaugural BOOTSTRAPS newsletter. We hope to deliver regular updates and information about our centre and events.

I encourage you all to interact with us on our social media outlets or in person at our centre. This year has been extremely busy so far and it has seen us take huge steps towards our goal of expansion and upgrading our centre. We are currently sorting out our accreditations that will allow us to deliver nationally recognised VET qualifications in saddlery and leather production. We are also exploring various options to expand into a larger facility that will afford us the space for these classes. There will be more to follow regarding this in the future and if you know of anyone interested in these classes, please have them contact us.

In April, BOOTSTRAPS finished our pilot RSL QLD Partnership leather program. It was a fantastic success with many of the veterans who participated, remaining at our centre after the course concluded. It was very humbling and impressive to see the improvements made by the students over the 10 weeks. The quality of the finished products from everyone was exceptional and they should all be very proud of their efforts, as we are of them.

So, what is happening next? We are in the process of organising another barefoot bowls day, a golf day, and a gala ball at the end of the year. We have also started up the raffle ticket sales at Porters restaurant, so come on down for a lovely meal and help support us. Our 500 Club has also kicked off, with all the details found on our web page, so please spread the word.

Thank you to all our staff and supporters who

have helped to get to where we are today.

See you next month and stay safe!!!

- Sam Kavanagh, CEO Bootstraps

Thank you CBA Gatton, this will go a long way to helping the centre out!

Picture: Here we are collecting the cheque that was nearly bigger than our treasurer, we had it hold it low so she could see over it - but remember we're not allowed to make short jokes!!!

Bunnings is nearly ready to open at Plainland. It’s great to have an exciting new shop being added to our local area. It’s also adds for us a unique opportunity to reach out into our community by way of sausage sizzles.

Would love to have volunteers ready to run the BBQ and chat with people from our community and tell them about our in-valuable service we provide here at Bootstraps.

We've looking for name and numbers of those that might be interested in helping to make Bootstraps a household name to the Lockyer Community. If this is you please reach out to us today at enquiries@bootstraps.org.au

500 CLUB:

We are so pleased to announce our newest member to the 500 Club - Coast to Country Chiropractic. As a local business themselves, located in Plainland, they have been caring for the needs of locals for over 15 years and know all too well the importance of 'support'

Why not check them out for yourself today and tell them how you heard about them!

Bootstraps is really proud to have Coast to Country Chiropractic onboard as a member. But to keep the centre marching along we need more members! If you too would like to support our work click below to discover how you can become a 500 CLUB MEMBER!

LEATHER LAUGHS:

What do you call a soldier who survived mustard gas and pepper spray? A seasoned veteran!
As a group of soldiers stood in formation at an Army Base, the drill Sergeant said, “All right! All you idiots Fall Out.” As the rest of the soldiers wandered away, one Soldier remained at attention. The drill instructor walked over until he was eye–to-eye with him. The soldier smiled and said, “Sure were a lot of 'em, huh, sarge!”

PROJECTS:

Every week our Bootstraps Members and visitors to the centre toil away, for sometimes hours on end, to create their unique leather work pieces. We'd love to share some of the recent once from the past month, and perhaps inspire you for your next leather work project!

We look forward to bringing you more in next months, News Leather. But in the meantime be sure to like and follow us on Social Media to keep up to date with what's happening with Bootstraps!

We'd really love to hear from you about what

projects you'd really like to do!

Satchel, Handbag, Photo Album, Rifle Case, Tool Case, Binoculars Case or perhaps some more unique!

Leave us a comment below on what you would like to make!
