JUNE 2022 NEWS-LEATHER

NEWS LEATHER HEADER

WELCOME TO THE JUNE 2022 EDITION OF THE BOOTSTRAPS NEWSLETTER.

HERE WE DISCUSS EVERYTHING GOING ON, UPCOMING EVENTS, WELCOMING NEW MEMBERS AND CELEBRATING OUR LOVE AND PASSION FOR EVERYTHING LEATHER!

FROM THE CEO:

Hello everyone and welcome to 2022!

Due to several unforeseen events over the last few months, our newsletter was not disseminated. Even the floods couldn’t keep us down though, and I am glad to announce we are back now better than ever. We have been very busy lately and have made a number of fantastic contacts and networks across a wide range of industries.

We had the pleasure of attending the Ipswich Historical Society on Sunday 12th June, to help them celebrate their ‘A Time of Courage’, 80th anniversary military vehicle show. We had a fantastic day and made some great new friends. Thank you to Leone and the team from the IHS.

Last week saw Mates 4 Mates participate in a day long leather workshop. 12 'Mates' attended the centre and spent all day having fun and making leather projects. Thank you to Leyton and crew from Mates for a great day.

This month also heralds the inclusion of 5 new trainee instructors into the ranks of the BOOTSTRAPS team. Andrew, Andrew, Norelle, Shannon, and Dan have joined us with the intent on being trained as leatherwork instructors over the next 18 month. It is a very exciting time indeed. I look forward to watching their skills develop and help them in the wonderful world of leathercraft.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone if they are interested in a workplace team building activity or the like, please let us know so we can cater for your organisation’s needs.

Next month sees us celebrate our 3rd birthday at our Gatton centre, and we are holding an open day / birthday event on the 15th of July. If you or your organisation would like to attend, please let us know as soon as possible.

As always, I would like to close by saying a huge thank you to all my staff for their continued efforts in making BOOTSTRAPS the success it is.

Thank you to all our staff and supporters who

have helped to get to where we are today.

See you next month and stay safe!!!

- Sam Kavanagh, CEO Bootstraps

EVENTS:

It's hard to believe it, but July will officially mark our third year for the centre and wow how has the time flown! To celebrate this milestone we'll be hosting a special event on the 15th July 2022 at 11:00am. It's limited invitation, however if your interested, please contact admin@bootstraps.org.au and let them know your interest.

Recently we we're invited to attend the Ipswich Historical Society for the 80th Anniversary Military Vehicle Show - 'A Time of Courage'. They showcased a range of military Jeeps, motorcycles, trucks and tanks. The 2nd Light Horse Troop were on hand to answer some questions and show us some demonstrations as well as a collection of local artisans and other supporting organisations. Best of all, we were allowed us to set up a stand there ourselves on the day, and this gave us a chance to spread our message as well as to take in all that the day had to offer! Check out some of the pictures from the day below.

BOOTSTRAPS HQ:

Our centre of operations, located in Gatton, Queensland, is always open to ALL ADF personnel that are currently serving and/or ex, and the general community to drop in.

The centre is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:00am - 4:00pm.

Feel free to drop by and say hello or introduce yourself!

STAFF:

As mentioned in the Presidents Message we have welcomed 5 new staff members to the role of trainee instructors. It's great to have some fresh faces in the centre and their passion and enthusiasm is welcome.

Speaking of welcome, we are always welcoming new faces to volunteer their time, experience and skills. Without the tireless support of our volunteers keeping Bootstraps going would be impossible. Regardless of your background or skillsets, every one of us can help to play a part. It doesn't need to be huge, it could be only a few hours a week through to a few days a week - really every little bit helps.

If you're in a position to offer some voluntary assistance to our organisation, then please reach out to us today by contacting us by phone or email to admin@bootstraps.org.au

Also if you are in a position to assist us through monetary donations of any value, please visit our website and follow the link to: https://www.bootstraps.org.au/donations

SUPPORT:

For some of us, we're not ready to talk as it means saying things out aloud reminds us of the issue. Then there's times we simply don't want to talk, but we're comfortable to text how we're feeling. As the classic song by Cold Chisel says "When the war is over, it's time to start again!" But for some of us that war internally is ongoing. Here at Bootstraps we have all been in that situation and know what it feels like. Please remember if you need to talk you can drop in to our centre and say g'day to some like minded folk

But for those other times, when you feel this way, know that there is support available via text on 0477 131114 through Lifeline Text. This is a service openly available 24/7and ran by Lifeline. You can text them anything that's on your mind - no matter how overwhelming, they are there to listen. Just know, that there is someone there when you're ready!

Please feel free to share with your friends, families and colleagues! Remember there is always someone willing to listen!

500 CLUB:

We are always so proud to promote all of our 500 Club Members that proudly supports us!

The last few month and now the last year have been really difficult for many businesses and we want to take the moment to acknowledge the continued support of all of our 500 Club Member's. Despite their own struggles, our valued partners have stuck with us through their dedicated support. Please make sure that you support them however you can!

Every News Leather, we aim to showcase a new 500 Club Member to thank them for their support but also to let you know about the legends that support us! This month we acknowledge our newest member - RDO Equipment Gatton.

RDO Equipment, supply and service John Deere equipment including mowers. They're known for their focus on customer service and support and for being one of the largest and most respected agricultural machinery in regional Australia, formerly Vanderfield Pty Ltd.
